In the Western Orissa, 56 Km. long Lanjigarh Road-Junagarh new BG line under construction, will connect Lanjigarh Road on the Raipur-Vizianagaram line to Junagarh. On extension, it will eventually connect Amagura in the Koraput-Kirandul line and will thus give an alternative connection to Ananthagiri Ghats. With the construction of this line, Kalahandi, one of the most backward districts of the country and frequently hit by drought and famine, will be connected to railway network and the poor populace of one of the most backward regions of the country will experience socio-economic upsurge and industrialisation.
