East Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (ECoRWWO) is the apex body at Zonal Level at Bhubaneswar in the chain of Women’s Welfare Organisations functioning at Divisional and Workshop level. ECoRWWO is constituted by the wives of the officers of East Coast Railway and is dedicated to the welfare of Railway Employees, their families in particular and the society and community in general. ECoRWWO’s headquarter is at Bhubaneswar with branches at the three divisional headquarter namely Khurda Road, Waltair, Sambalpur.
Objectives :
- To promote education in the railway colony with emphasis on child education (Nursery School) & adult literacy; also to promote extracurricular activities among children & wards of railway employees, like dance, painting & computer training
- To extend voluntary services to the distressed during various natural calamities like floods and cyclones that affect the coastal belts of Orissa almost every year.
- To help and serve the railway men & women and other members of society while organizing Utility Centers at various places.
- To extend assistance to the needy children of Railway employees in their pursuit to higher studies in Technical fields. To work with the help of various NGOs who are dedicated in serving the poor, destitute and underprivileged.
Activities in brief..
1. During celebration of Independence Day on 15.08.2006, ECoRWWO/BBS had distributed cash award amounting to Rs.10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand only) to 22 meritorious students belonging to family of Railway employees who had secured marks 80% and above in SSC ( 10th class) and HSC (12th class) Examination conducted by the respective Boards for the year 2005-06.
2. On 15th August, 2006 members of ECoRWWO with President of the Organisation visited Central Hospital, Mancheswar and distributed snacks & fruits to the indoor patients.
3. ECoRWWO/BBS is running a nursery school “Phulwari” at the Zonal Headquarters of this Railway. Besides providing education, extra curricular activities are also organized in the school. During this year Republic Day, Independence Day, Children’s Day & Teachers’ Day were celebrated in the school with ceremonial gaiety. Annual sports were also organized in the school.
4. Annual function of Phulwari School was organized on 17.11.2006. In house cultural programme was conducted. On this occasion sweet packets & colored banyans were distributed to the kids of the school. A study tour-cum-picnic was organized on 09.12.2006 for the students of the school.
5. “Hariyali Teej” was celebrated in the month of August 2006 during the auspicious function and in house cultural programme was conducted and awards given for the best performance.
6. On 30.063.2006, a Computer Training Centre was inaugurated by Shri N K Goel, General Manager, East Coast Railway in presence of Smt. Preeti Goel, President /ECoRWWO. Training in the field of Information Technology is imparted to the wards of the railway employees at subsidized rates in this training centre. A total number of 24 students have been trained in two batches in IT in collaboration with NIIT/Bhubaneswar from this Training Centre.
7. ECoRWWO has organized various hobby classes during the year in Drawing & Paining, Music (Vocal & Instrumental), and Dance etc. at a nominal fee, which immensely benefited the railway employees and local residents. On Teachers’ Day (5th September 2006) Teachers of different disciplines were honoured with gifts and mementos.
8. SANKALP, a Tailoring Centre is functioning at the Zonal Headquarters. Qualified teachers have been appointed in the centre for imparting training in cutting, stitching and embroidery on the wards of the railway employees.
9. Despite limited resources, ECoRWWO has come forward in the service of the distressed during various natural calamities like flood, drought, cyclone, earthquake etc. An amount of Rs. 50,000/-(Rupees Fifty Thousand) was contributed during the year to the “Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund’ for immediate relief to the earthquake affected people of Jammu & Kashmir.
10. Another amount of Rs.1,00,000/-(Rupees One Lakh only) was contributed on 23.03.2006 to Railway Women’s Welfare Central Organization, New Delhi for replenishing its corpus fund for rendering financial assistance for the national cause
11. Essay competition for the children of non-gazetted railway employees was conducted on 17.06.2006 in various age groups. Total no. of 115 students participated in the event and 9 best entries in three groups awarded cash prizes and merit certificates.
12. All India on-the-spot drawing and painting competition for the children of railway employees was organized on 24.09.2006 at Zonal Headquarters in three age groups. Total number of 195 children participated in the competition out of which 12 children in three age groups were awarded with cash prizes and merit certificates. Best 9 entries in three age groups were sent to Railway Board for evaluation on all India basis. Shree Sambit Kumar Lenka, S/o Shri S K Lenka, Sr.S.O(A/Cs) was awarded cash prize & merit certificate in this event at Railway Board level on 13.11.2006.
13. Kumari Venkatalaxmi, Jr. Telecom Operator of Waltair Division recommended by ECoRWWO was selected as best woman worker for the year 2006 and was awarded at Railway Board level on 13.11.2006 in recognition of her meritorious service.
14. A Cultural Nite “Sapteswar” was organized on 23rd December 2006 at Rabindra Mandap,Bhubaneswar to mark the 2nd fund raising ceremony of ECoRWWO.The famous Bollywood singer, Kumar Sanu and his troupe enthralled the audience with their hit songs.
ECoRWWO is in its infancy. It has an ambitious programme of expanding its socio-cultural activities in time to come.
